Special Interest Groups

AVA’s Special Interest Groups bring together veterinary professionals who share a clinical focus, a passion or a field of practice. From the moment you join, you belong to a community of peers, a body of expertise and a collective voice on the issues that matter in your field.

A Special Interest Group (SIG) is a community of AVA members who share a clinical interest, field of practice or professional focus. SIGs exist across every corner of the veterinary profession — from cattle vets and equine surgeons to conservation biologists, behaviourists and business owners.

Inside each SIG you will find peers who understand your work without, CPD built around your clinical reality, and a collective voice on the policy issues closest to your practice. Whether you are a final-year student exploring your interests or a seasoned clinician with decades in your field, there is a SIG for you.

What you can access in each SIG depends on your membership tier.
  • All Access members unlock the full SIG experience. That means every clinical tool, app and accreditation your SIG offers — including BioCheck, WelfareCheck, ImmuneReady, PregCHECK, BullCHECK (with accreditation), the Sheep Toolkit, EVA apps, ASAV resources and hospital accreditation programs. You also get access to SIG publications, journals and resources, plus the Event Advantage discount — saving hundreds of dollars on SIG conference and workshop registrations.
  • Flexi members access SIG webinars, online journals, the SIG online community through Member Hub (Circle) and the opportunity to advocate on the issues that matter.
  • Connected members stay part of the SIG community through Member Hub (Circle), plus access to news, online discussion and the opportunity to advocate on the issues that matter.

When you sign up or renew your AVA membership, you will be prompted to select your Special Interest Groups as part of the process. There is no additional fee and no application — simply choose the communities that interest you.

If you would like to add or change your SIGs outside of sign-up or renewal, contact our member services team and they will take care of it for you.

The AVA Member Hub (Circle) is where AVA members connect, ask questions and keep the conversation going between events and webinars. On the AVA Member Hub (Circle), each SIG and the Student group has a dedicated space where members discuss clinical topics, share resources and support one another.

All AVA members have access to the AVA Member Hub (Circle) as part of your AVA membership, and all student members are automatically able to access the Student group’s space. To access a SIG’s space on the AVA Member Hub (Circle) however,  you need to be a member of the SIG.

Not on the AVA Member Hub (Circle) yet? Head to the AVA Member Hub (Circle) to sign up with the email linked to your AVA membership to get started.
